What is IELTS

The University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate has developed a test ,The International English Language Testing System (IELTS). IELTS is now accepted as evidence of a prospective student’s level of English by most universitiebridge’s in English speaking countries. If a student is interested in studing in a country where English is the native language then it is better to sit for IELTS Academic test or TOEFL test. IELTS has two different types of tests - General and Academic.

In IELTS test, a student is given bands from one to nine. It is not a test of pass or fail. Band one indicates that you have virtually no English at all. Band nine is considered native speaker proficiency.Universities in countries like the United Kingdom, New Zealand and Australia typically require a band score of between 6 and 7.The test has four components – Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking. You will receive a band score for each component as well as a global band score.

There is lot of information on the web available. Firstly you have to decide in which university you want to study and what score they want.

I hope this information will be helpful.

Cheers
